TENTH ANNIVERSARY

MEMORIAL DAY MESSAGE

On May 29, 2010, Dennis Hopper took his journey to the spirit world; he was 73. He reached his final resting place in Ranchos de Taos with a gesture from Jack and a salute from the roar of choppers lined up in a procession to see him through to the end. Such tremendous emotion as we honor and pay tribute to Dennis, his life, and his artistic contributions; we pray this day will allow the ideal of liberty to resonate and sink deeply into our hearts in a way that fosters gratitude for the many who have walked on having paid the ultimate sacrifice. Let us humble ourselves to appreciate and respect all life, give thanks, and cherish peace and freedom.

The 10th anniversary of Dennis Hopper Day's Easy Rider Ride differed from previous years, as we express our sincere condolences to the victims of senseless violence at the Red River Memorial Rally and their families. We firmly believe motorcycle gang violence has no place in our communities, the honoring of fallen warriors, or the commemoration of Dennis Hopper Day and the Easy Rider Ride.

On behalf of Dennis Hopper Day and the Easy Rider Ride, we express our gratitude to the first responders, Taos Pueblo, Taos Mountain Casino, and the Town of Taos for their prompt actions in safeguarding our communities and visitors. Although some of our riders stayed in Red River when we rode through, we ensured that they and all our riders made it safely to their homes, hotels, motor lodges, and camping sites.

We'd like to give a big shoutout to our riders for their camaraderie, care, and respect. Dennis Hopper Day and the Easy Rider Ride are community events promoting peace, love, and art in the spirit of freedom. Violence of any sort is not acceptable.

Savor the Journey, Ride Safe, and Stay Strong, Sanitized, and Smudged!
